eWeek, UNR business week combine to offer plenty of events

Posted September 14, 2010

eWeek logo Two of the region’s most significant business events are this week — which makes for a full slate of activities, all dedicated to the expansion and celebration of business in Northern Nevada.

UNR COLA logoNevada’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology continues its eWeek events, which began Sept. 1 — since its inception four years ago, the event has expanded to a full month — and the University of Nevada, Reno’s College of Business hosts its annual Business Week.

NCET’s eWeek is dedicated to celebrating and encouraging the spirit of entrepreneurship and small-business ownership in Nevada, NCET CEO Dave Archer said.

"Our economy is driven by small businesses," he said, adding that 95 percent of Nevada businesses have fewer than 20 employees.

Expo logoDuring eWeek, many regional organizations — ranging from large firms to nonprofits — hold events that include open houses, seminars, and meet-and-greets, which are promoted under the eWeek umbrella. The events serve as educational opportunities for prospective entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs and small-business owners.

"It’s an opportunity for the entire small-business community to come together," Archer said.

StartUp & Growth Strategies; Doing the RIGHT Things First

Posted August 28, 2010

Help determine the viability/growth of a new business ( or new market) with the least amount of dollars risk.

These are “no BS” courses taught by Rod Hosilyk & Matt Westfield – “real world” guys who have been there and done it all – and are still doing it! They explain it in detail. And although they teach these topics in University Executive MBA programs, students will learn from real world experiences – what worked and what didn’t…and why, in easily understood terms, not highly theoretical ideas that are difficult to understand and implement. The focus is on starting and building a business for success focusing on marketing, customer acceptance, product viability, validating the marketplace, etc. rather than on determining legal structures such as partnerships, LLC, corporations, etc. Attendees leave with a wealth of practical information they can begin using immediately.
