The UNLV School of Dental Medicine opened the doors to its first class in the Fall of 2002 with the commitment to address the state’s shortage of dentists and the lack of oral health access for lower socioeconomic groups. The school was charged with preparing socially aware, clinically adept dentists to address oral health needs in Nevada.
The School faced a number of growing pains during the first five years including numerous changes in key administrative leaders. A new Dean, Dr. Karen P. West, was appointed in 2007. In the succeeding five years the School has accomplished a dramatic business turnaround, putting it on sound footing to achieve its mission, build a national reputation, and attract top quality faculty and students.
UNLV President Neal Smatresk and Dean Karen West will present their story of the turnaround of the UNLV School of Dental Medicine.

Small, high tech companies can access $2.3 billion when they can meet the needs of any of eleven Federal agencies. The agencies prepare listing of the types of innovations they are seeking and companies compete for funding of up to $150K for Phase I and over a $1 million for Phase II projects.
